Depression of weak allograft immunity in the mouse by neonatal or adult exposure to urethan.

چکیده
Treatment of adult mice of three strains with mini mally carcinogenic doses of urethan caused an impair ment of cellular immunity as measured by prolongation of allograft survival. This effect was only detectable at the highest dose of urethan tested (150 mg/mouse) and was confined to the weaker strain combinations examined for allograft prolongation. Newborns appeared to be more susceptible to the depressive effect of urethan than did adults. In the BALB/c strain, doses of 120 and 150 mg urethan administered to adults were ineffectual in pro longing allograft survival. However, a dose of 1.0 mg ad ministered to 4-day-old males (but not females) signifi cantly prolonged allograft survival in some individuals when the mice were tested at 3 months of age. These facts are discussed in light of the pronounced carcino genic effect of urethan in young and newborn mice.

متن کاملEffect of maternal anastrozole treatment on ovarian follicle development in neonatal mouse: A morphologic study
Introduction: The origin of neonatal oocyte development is unknown. However, estrogen plays an essential role during development of the female reproductive system. Anastrozole is used as both ovulation stimulating and an anticancer drug. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of Anastrozole on follicular development and differentiation in mice. Materials and methods: In the present s...
متن کاملThe predictive value of skin allograft survival times during the development of urethan-induced lung adenomas in BALB-c mice.
The possibility that depression of cell-mediated immu nity facilitates the carcinogenic effect of urethan on the mouse lung was studied in the BALB/c strain which is highly susceptible to lung tumor development. Lung adenomas were induced by giving 4-day-old mice an i.p. injection of 1.0 mg urethan. Two months after injection, urethan-treated and 0.85% NaCl solution-treated control mice were te...

متن کاملInhibition of the activity of mouse natural killer cells by urethan.
The effect of the carcinogen urethan on the natural killer (NK) activity of spleen cells from inbred A/J mice was studied. Urethan (1 mg/g) inoculated into 6- to 8-week-old A/J mice produced considerable depression of cytotoxic activity of spleen cells against YAC-1 or RL male 1 tumor cells. This effect was biphasic. Initial depression of NK activity was observed 1 day after urethan treatment, ...
